London Loves

ROYAL FASHION WHORES

Leave it to London to make me feel like a big fat fashion zero. I would never be caught dead wearing a fanny pack, a visor, or tivas, but I always feel so under-dressed and touristy when I'm there. The people of London are fearless when it comes to style. They're not afraid to pair things that you would never think of putting together and they always make it work. I saw women in their sixties wearing mini skirts and looking good, women wearing hounds tooth paired with polka dots, girlies wearing black tights and white shoes. Anyway, you get the picture.

No matter what they have on, they always look so effortless and stylish, like they just stepped out of Nylon Magazine or even Vogue. And that goes for the lads as well. While they're not overly metrosexual , I never saw sweat shirts or trucker hats.

Here's a look at the fabulous unsuspecting victims of my sneaky camera (CCTV anyone?) while tooling around the lovely royal city.

Product Review

ORANGE YOU GLAD FOR SULA

You know the smell of an orange as you're peeling it and that slight mist that sprays in your face as you peel the rind away from the flesh? That's exactly the experience I had when I sprayed Sun-Kissed Citrus by Sula yesterday in Ulta.

The description:
A bright, zesty citrus scent with notes of tangerine, lemon, orange, grapefruit and bergamot.

Sounds perfect for the dog days of summer. And the bottle is so pretty. . .

All Over the World

PLANET BEAUTIFUL

Style.com has compiled a list of the best summer beauty products from all over the globe. Of course, the most interesting products come from Asia like the Panpuri herbal hot compress made with lemongrass from Bangkok. This list also turned me on to the very fun Japanese beauty company, Chidoriya World.

I Love Barbie!

PLASTIC PASSION

I've always been a huge Barbie fan. When I was a kid, I had Malibu Barbie, Beauty Barbie, Skipper, Ken, and several outsiders like The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man, Donny and Marie Osmond, Cher, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and the good witch, Glendela.

I was walking through Toys-R-Us today with my 17-month old son and passed a whole wall of new collectible Barbie Dolls. Since
I'm still drawn to her plastic pulchritude and tiny stylish outfits, I had to stop and gawk. If I were a collector, I'd be in heaven. There are some really interesting dolls out there now, including a "Barbie Loves Elvis" Barbie, a Badgley Mischka Barbie (Live from the red carpet at an E! event), Kimora Lee Simmons Barbie, Juicy Couture Barbies, a whole line of fashion model Barbies, and a Bob Mackie line of dolls. You can find it all here.

Art Farty Fashion

OOOOO, LA LA

Last week, the art world's elite gathered in Zurich to attend Art Basel. The legendary contemporary art fair, which has been called "The Olympics of the Art World" by The New York Times, was packed with big ticket paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs, and video works.

It also swarmed with dressed-up art enthusiasts, heiresses, and influential jet-setters. Since this is a fashion blog, I'm going to focus on the fabulous get-ups rather than the amazing art that I've heard about. Here are a few of the more outstanding art-inspired outfits from the parties that dotted the nearly week-long art extravaganza:

BUTTERED UP

I just found out about a nail salon called Butter London. They make nail polish in fun shades and are known for having salons in airports and not using any toxins in their products. Lucky for me, they've just opened one up in Dulles Airport in D.C.

The website is gorgeous (love the crow in the crown!), but I can't figure out if they're actually a British company and have salons IN London. The founder is from Seattle and most of the salons are in Washington. In any case, this is the description of Butter London from the site:

butter LONDON
is famous for two things: Our rapidly growing chain of airport nail salons, and our stunning, non-toxic product line. Our stores are like no nail salon you could ever imagine, with huge black chandeliers, nail stations hand-made by carpenters, and privately commissioned wallpaper from a famous British company. You might expect to pay a fortune for a treatment at one of our stores, but our manicures are $20, and pedicures only $40!
